Hospital Infant Protection Systems
Hugs® Infant Protection System: The world’s number 1 infant protection system
TeleHealth Services offers an infant protection system that will protect the newborn starting the moment the infant is born, ensuring no confusion and a higher level of safety. In 2007 the Hugs® infant protection system helped to protect more than one million infants in hospitals across the United States. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, this number represented approximately 25% of all infants born in the United States in 2007.

The Hugs infant protection system is an electronic security system designed to enhance the safety of infants in obstetric and pediatric departments. A small, tamper-proof tag is placed on the infant immediately after birth. Should an infant be carried toward an exit door, the Hugs system will automatically set off an alarm, activate magnetic door locks and hold selected elevators. It also integrates easily with other security and access control systems your facility may already have in place such as cameras, public address systems, pagers, sirens, and other security alarms. Hugs has a wealth of automatic features and a range of support services, including:
- Competitive Financing. TeleHealth Services offers competitive financing options to deliver the cost as an operational expense.
- Easy-attach tag with automatic enrollment. Each newborn is protected the instant a tamper-proof Hugs tag is attached. The Hugs system offers full supervision, with all active hugs tags reporting every 10 seconds to show they are present and functioning. The system software interface looks like other Windows programs and functions intuitively.
- No manual tests. The Hugs system requires no manual checks of infant tags or other devices to make sure they’re working. The Hugs system software continually monitors the status of all devices, and will generate an alarm if something goes wrong.
- Automatic mother/infant matching. With the Kisses® option, the Hugs system automatically confirms that the right baby is with the right mother by playing a soft lullaby when the infants and mothers are correctly matched. There are no buttons to push, no numbers to match and no wall-mounted lamps to check.
- Supports staff and patients. Effective infant protection requires successful integration into the clinical environment, and the participation of nurses, security staff and parents. TeleHealth Services support team works with you to make implementation smooth and trouble-free.
- User friendly. The Hugs system offers a wide range of monitoring options. Users see the menus and commands they need, all in a standard Windows-based PC environment. The integrated CCTV option enables you to see what is happening at an exit during a door alarm, right from within the Hugs user interface.
- Full supervision. The Hugs system ensures continuous validation of all components, including the tag, with each tag sending a Heartbeat® status message every 10 seconds. If the system doesn’t receive these messages for a specified time period, an alarm is automatically generated.
