80% of Strokes Can Be PreventedEvery year, more than 795,000 people in the U.S. have a stroke, costing the country an estimated $33 billion each year, including cost of health care services, medicines to treat stroke and missed days of work. With stroke being the fifth leading cause of death and a major cause of disability, the need for emergent stroke care is essential to reduce disability and decrease mortality outcomes.

As part of National Stroke Awareness Month, we invite you to join us on Thursday, May 25 for a webinar where Bonnie Schreiber, MSN, RN, Manager of Nursing Informatics and Nursing Resource, and Annemarie Schlomann, BSN, RN, CEN, Nursing Resource Staff Nurse at Newton Medical Center, will share how NMC is focused on improving stroke patient education using a multi-faceted approach including interactive patient engagement technology. As part of their presentation, Bonnie  and Anne Marie will discuss successful methods for reducing stroke risk along with assessing the learning needs of patients. They will also explain some of the Joint Commission requirements for being recognized as a Primary Stroke Center.
