    Sam Lippolis is a virtual health expert who has created telemedicine programs for more than a decade. She works with physicians and clinicians to implement, grow, and improve telehealth. Lippolis provides real-world expertise in telehealth reimbursement, technology, legal, compliance, and patient and provider acceptance. She’s a resource for online one-on-one and group advising services from video visits to remote patient monitoring and business development.

    Her weekly video blog Sam I Am Innovates covers telemedicine. Each episode is designed to help providers take immediate action on the most important strategies for a successful telehealth program. She interviews doctors, nurses, and health innovators who share their first-hand experiences and tips of the trade.

    Prior to becoming an independent telemedicine advisor, Lippolis worked for large health systems and academic medical centers. She was the telemedicine director for University of Cincinnati Health, Centura Health, University of Colorado Physicians, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and Kaiser Permanente. In her work, she has created programs from the ground up and implemented telemedicine across five states in 19 specialties from Level 1 trauma centers to critical access hospitals to solo practices. She recruited and trained more than 10,000 clinicians from MA to physician. Lippolis holds a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Colorado.

    Dr. Utibe Effiong is a practicing board-certified internal medicine specialist physician and public health scientist who is passionate about health policy, health system administration, drug addiction management, infectious diseases, the influence of the environment on human health, global health, and development. He is an international public speaker and prolific writer on issues of global health importance. Also a professor of medicine; he trains students at Central Michigan University, Michigan State University and, the University of Michigan – Flint.

    Dr. Effiong is actively involved with healthcare administration within the MidMichigan Health system. He is the primary care dyad leader for the Central region. Dr. Effiong is also the chairperson of the health system’s medication safety committee, co-chair of the ambulatory antimicrobial stewardship committee, and board member of the corporate quality and safety committee. He also sits on the executive board of the MidMichigan Collaborative Care Organization.

    Jasmine Bishop brings more than 10 years of telehealth and broadband experience, having helped hundreds of healthcare sites with training, equipment and programmatic support. Bishop has led telehealth technology development, broadband expansion and the operational implementation for multiple telehealth modalities, including virtual care and remote patient monitoring, for hundreds of California hospitals and clinics in rural and underserved areas. She currently supports communities across the state of Maine. Additionally, Bishop fills the gubernatorial appointment of board member on the ConnectMe Authority and serves as an advisory member for the Maine Telehealth and Telemonitoring Advisory Group. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international business and an M.B.A. in data analytics.

    Richard Albrecht is a healthcare services executive who has spent his career creating value for both industry and medical provider organizations.

    Albrecht gained his initial telehealth experience in 1993 as vice president of Raytel Medical Corporation, one of the first remote patient monitoring services in the country. Over the next two decades he held a number of executive positions in the telehealth industry, including telemedicine division president for Philips Healthcare, where he led a telehealth services division to 700% growth and ultimate acquisition. Albrecht was a key member of a small team of industry innovators who secured a new CPT code for a novel chronic condition monitoring service.

    ProHealth Physicians, one of the largest independent primary care groups in the Northeast recruited Albrecht in 2013 to join their organization as vice president of Services Innovation, where he was responsible for population health initiatives designed to drive value-based care. This work included a multi-faceted partnership with CVS Health, the creation of asynchronous telehealth consults, and the launch of after-hours virtual visits utilizing the AmWell platform.

    Today, Albrecht serves as executive director of telehealth for Community Health Network of Connecticut Holdings Inc., where he is responsible for leading the development and implementation of telehealth services across a network of seven Federally Qualified Health Centers serving approximately 200,000 patients. These programs focus on improving care for the most ill and challenging-to-care-for patients, including a diabetic teleretinal exam service, Chronic Care Management, eConsults and remote patient monitoring. All of these services have been deployed in primary care settings across Connecticut within the last four years, and are improving access for the underserved while simultaneously lowering costs for the health system. A former U.S. Army officer, Albrecht’s educational background includes an undergraduate degree in business management from Providence College, and a master’s degree in finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Where Telehealth Is Headed In 2021 – The telehealth industry saw demand rise incredibly quickly this spring as Covid-19 started sweeping through the Northeast. Telehealth appointments, of course, are ideal for a pandemic: patients can get an informed opinion on their symptoms, and receive a referral for a diagnostic test without having to physically go into an office and endanger others.

Telehealth: The advantages and disadvantages – Normally, doctors and other health care providers for their patients in person at a facility such as a medical office, clinic, or hospital. But thanks to computers, smartphones, and other new digital technologies, medical professionals can now diagnose, treat, and oversee their patients’ care virtually.

Telehealth called a ‘silver lining’ of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, it might stick – Telehealth use surged from 8% of Americans in December to 29% in May as primary care and mental health physicians and specialists turned to remote care out of necessity during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a UnitedHealth Group report.

HHS Awards $15 Million to Support Telehealth Providers During the COVID-19 Pandemic – Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded $15 million to 159 organizations across five health workforce programs to increase telehealth capabilities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These awards demonstrate the Trump Administration’s continued efforts and commitment to building a national telehealth infrastructure.

US Finalizes Permanent Expansion of Medicare Telehealth Services – Today the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the annual Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) final rule, prioritizing CMS’ investment in primary care and chronic disease management by increasing payments to physicians and other practitioners for the additional time they spend with patients, especially those with chronic conditions.

Telehealth Claim Lines Increase 3,060 Percent Nationally – Telehealth claim lines increased 3,060 percent nationally from October 2019 to October 2020, rising from 0.18 percent of medical claim lines in October 2019 to 5.61 percent in October 2020, according to new data from FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker.
